Does anyone understand the term rebuild? Suter actually hung up on Guerin when he got the buyout phone call. Lol. It's called business!!!!

I really don't understand how this will help the Wild other than this year. The dead money is insane.

you cannot trade dead cap money in the NHL. so there is no way for billy to "offload some of that later"

Now I understand the article, Dan Wallace's feelings were hurt when Suter was cut loose.

That is a very plausible explanation. Parise was taken off the power play, sitting in the press box, and playing on the 4th line when in the lineup. He expressed his displeasure.

This year Suter was the Wild’s 4th best D man. He still has value and skill. The reduction in minutes has helped but he is definitely in decline. Going forward, Suter will probably be a 3rd pair guy exposing his weaknesses further playing with someone not named Spurgeon. Guerin probably knows that Suter like Parise will not respond well to a reduced role. Guerin is heading off a potentially poisonous room with 2 disgruntled vets.

Nope, Gary Suter was his uncle.

… or BG and his brain trust thought the cap impact and dead money was worth it in order to protect Dumba and a forward for the ED. Hockey is a tough business and this flat cap for multiple years messed with the long term plans of many teams, combined with the ED rules, is leading to some interesting developments.

Pride has to stop, Suter should have waived NMC.....there was no risk of getting selected.
Guerin needed protect Dumba, Suter forced Guerin's hand.

Now Suter can be a great add on a bargain contract to play the 5-6 role.

If Andy Greene can do it, Suter should do well.

It’s been reported that Guerin didn’t ask Suter to waive his NMC. However, Suter could have offered to waive for the team since there was almost no chance of the Kraken taking him. That may have prompted a different reaction from Guerin.

Is anyone else getting a laugh out of the fact that those 2 contracts basically just became 17 year contracts in length?

So, looking at the cap situation for the next 4 years, I am feeling better about. Don't get me wrong, I do not like dead cap space, I don't think anyone does. But comparing it to next year, they have basically the same amount. Whatever the roster ends up like this year is basically going to be it next year as well. The only contracts that come off next year are Rask, Bjugstad, Kahkonen and Sturm. Mostly all replaceable by cheap options. Year 3 is where the bite on cap space will be the most problemsome. That is when Dumba and Soucy (if still here) need to be re-upped. Year 4 is sitting currently at only $33.5 million and the cap should have started to go up by then. But that's when guys like Zuccarello, Foligno and Hartman come off the books, so hopefully there is youth that already has a season or 2 with the roster, allowing for some raises...just hopefully not huge ones.

Problem with that much dead cap space for that many years is that you are going to have to roll young players that breakout & want significant raises
(similar to Kaprizov). This dead cap really forces you to constantly make trades for futures you normally would never do.

Now there is always the possibility that Guerin can somehow swing a future deal to offload some of that but the is a whole other conversation for sometime down the road.

This is incorrect, no way to trade buyout cap hits under the current CBA.

LA is looking for a top 4 left handed D man for the next couple years and cap space to get one. Would love Suter in that role.

To be fair teams usually get crazy when trying to sign star UFA’s, so the Wild may have promised Parise/Suter some special treatment just to get them to sign

It's a young mans game and time Is up for Suter, And Parise It's called life and sometimes referred to as reality.

I'm still shocked at the Suter part. Not sure how the numbers change a year or two down the road but if they are lower it would seem more responsible.
